Just because it’s winter, that’s no excuse not to plant up a pot for your patio.  Why not pot up cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, or cabbage and grow them on your deck or patio this winter?  At best you have fresh vegetables to harvest and at the very least you have greenery and a conversation topic; “Is that a Brussel Sprout on your Deck?”  It’s not just Veggies, Evergreen Herbs are available to pot up this fall.  Rosemary, Oregano, and Thyme become easily accessible for fall cooking when growing just outside on your patio.  Other herbal culinary delights such as parsley and cilantro; although not cold hardy, if potted up can easily be brought inside during freezes.

Cold weather means my favorite meal; a hearty soul satisfying soup and crusty bread.  If you are with me on this then consider planting a Bay Laurel Tree.  Then anytime you are in the mood to make soup you can harvest fresh Bay Leaves from your garden.  The Bay Laurel Tree is a small evergreen tree perfect for nearly any small backyard.
