Winter Plant Care

Winter Waterlily and Aquatic Plant Care is a breeze here in the Houston Area and along the Gulf Coast. Water is a great insulator protecting the aquatic plants in your pond from freezing. Even if a layer of ice forms on top of the pond, the plants are still protected in the unfrozen water below. The only exception is Tropical Day Blooming Waterlilies. Tropical lilies will not survive if the pond water (not the outside air temperatures) drop down below 40 degrees for an extended period of time. This seems to happen every 8-10 years here in the Houston Area. Tropical Night Blooming Waterlilies have survived every winter I've experienced here in the Houston area including 1983. Click Winter Aquatic Plant Care for more detailed information.
