My Battle with the Green briar Vine

Green Briar is a thorny vine that is native all over the South.  Deer love to eat it and it’s highly flammable. It’s also difficult to control and often pops up everywhere.  You can blame it on the birds who love to eat the berries.  Once it establishes an underground root system it’s near impossible to eradicate.   It can make some wicked nasty canes:

When I discover one of these monsters I prune them with glee!  However you may find it growing in your garden with leaves like this:  Prune it back immediately and keep after it.  Eventually it will weaken and stop sending up shoots.
