Fish Care during Cooler Weather

Hello Fall! We finally get a break from the oppressive heat of summer yippee! Here are some tips for caring for your fish and pond during the fall/winter:

  1. Remove leaf debris. Excessive build up of leaf debris can lead to ammonia issues later on.
  2. Only feed your fish when they are active. If they are hanging out at the bottom of the pond they are in a sort of hibernating and do not need food.
  3. When the temperature drops at or below freezing we recommend turning off your pumps. This allows the water at the bottom of the pond to stay warmer for the fish. Do not worry there is plenty of oxygen for the fish in the cold weather. Once the temperatures get back up into the 40s you can turn your pumps back on.

That’s it easy peasy.
