Nearly every winter there are those hummingbirds too old to make the annual migration across the Gulf of Mexico to Central America. I know because hummingbirds have overwintered in my winter garden, I’ve even seen them feeding at night. The reasons why hummers hang around my house in the winter is because I have several large beds of red shrimp plant. These tough plants bloom right through the winter and provide the food needed by my geriatric hummers. Now is the time to plant red shrimp plants if you are interested is setting up an nursing home for hummers this winter.
