Ladybugs and other assorted insects

Insects are both friend and foe in the garden.  Take for example aphids, these bugs are known as the “fleas of the plant kingdom”!  Like fleas, aphids will bite and suck (blood from animals and sap from plants).  With a friendly name like “Ladybugs” you know these bugs are friends.  Despite their dainty name they will attack and eat all soft bodied bugs.  Another insect friend would be the scary looking Praying Mantid’s.  Mantids will catch and eat just about anything that moves.  We carry both at Nelson’s for a limited time during the spring.  By the time May rolls around it will too hot and they won’t be available until spring 2018.
