I was not born in the U.S.

I’m an “Army Brat” and I was born in Okinawa and spent some of my formative years living in countries in Southeast Asia.  I have a real appreciation for America because as a child I witnessed some of the conditions that people in other countries are forced to live.  One time my father took me and my brothers to Laos or Cambodia (not sure which) and the entire village came to watch us eat because they had never seen white children before, I remember we really “hammed it up” because we had a audience.  The water wasn’t safe to drink and we had to go to school with our own personal canteens.  I’m grateful for this country and I’m proud to be an American and I’m proud of my father and my father-in-law who fought for this country.
