I have an Uncle

Who doesn’t vacation in the summer because he doesn’t want to leave his vegetable garden!  I just came back from a 2 week trip visiting family.  My garden was in pretty good shape, but lot’s of weeds and overgrowth.  Before I left I planted cream peas and they are up, looking lush and green.  Cream peas are an old fashioned vegetable which taste delicious boiled and served with butter and bacon bits.  But that’s not all, even if I don’t harvest a crop I will still benefit from the nitrogen fixing properties of these members of the legume family.  If you have bare beds waiting for fall veggies, consider planting cream peas (there are several varieties all found feed stores).  Their foliage is deep green and lush and looks pretty even if you don’t harvest a crop!
