I grew up in Maryland where the winters are severe enough that most plant life freezes. After over 30 years living here along the Gulf Coast I continue to be amazed at all the plants that grow right through the winter. Lettuce in particular amazes me because it is so tender and fragile, yet after a freeze it will perk right back up again. We are currently harvesting from our winter garden: lettuce, cauliflower, kale and broccoli.
